Body contouring are surgical procedures aimed to make individuals look and feel slimmer or to attain a certain shape. It does not usually help the patient lose weight. Instead, it helps shape the body and address specific areas where weight loss isn’t effective or after significant weight loss results in extra skin.
There are many reasons why patients desire to make small tweaks in their appearance from wanting to lose volume to adding shape or volume to certain areas of the body. Whatever these reasons are, Dr Bijlani discusses custom-made solutions to find the optimum techniques for each patient.
Some body areas just won’t change despite diet or exercise due to stubborn pockets of excess fat. Surgical liposuction procedures also known as liposculpture or suction-assisted lipectomy help to remove the excess fat for a well-proportioned figure.
The treatment can be performed on– buttocks, hips, thighs, abdomen/ stomach, chin, upper arms, breasts or knees. It may be combined with procedures such as J plasma
It is frequently combined with an Abdominoplasty procedure, or Tummy Tuck.
Dr Bijlani uses her artistic leanings for hi-definition liposuction to give a sharply sculpted appearance that selected men and women desire.
is a more organic solution to restore subtle volume and shape, as well as rejuvenate certain areas of your body. Fat is taken from the body fat by liposuction and transferred to areas of the body where volume is needed.
Buttock transfer Fat:
Popularly known as the Brazilian Butt Augmentation (BBA) ,fat grafting in this area gives a natural, subtle curve to the derriere through a unique combination of liposuction and fat grafting
Breast Transfer :
Some women who do not desire implants can consider breast Enlargement with Fat Transfer. Fat Transfer is not recommended if you:
Fat Transfer to the face :
As we get older the fat content in the face – particularly the mid-face and chin area – loses some volume, causing the skin to draw downwards. A similar appearance is evident if one loses a significant amount of weight. Volumising the mid-face by transplanting fat a healthier glow and restore and rejuvenate the face.
Fat Transfer is also an increasingly popular alternative to using fillers for cheeks, lips and forehead
Fat Transfer to the hand:
With age or sun exposure the skin over the hand thins, exposing underlying anatomy to a greater extent. Dr Bijlani takes special interest in this complex area for Fat Transfer to the hands.
Pregnancy, weight loss and the natural ageing process can leave behind excess, sagging skin around the stomach (abdomen) area, which can’t be banished through exercise or non-invasive treatments.
Abdominoplasty is a surgery, which is aimed at giving the abdomen a flatter and leaner appearance.
Because each case is unique, there are several different approaches to creating that tight, flat midsection we all dream of.
Mini Tummy Tuck
A mini tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat below the bellybutton. Rarely is a mini tummy tuck combined with diastasis recti repair, so generally it is not your best option if weakened or separated abdominal muscles are a source of dissatisfaction with your midsection.
Incisions: The incision is made very low on the abdomen and is shorter than in other approaches. Because the procedure only focuses on the lower abdomen, it doesn’t require any repositioning or adjusting of your bellybutton.
Best candidate: If you have a small amount of excess skin and fat only below your bellybutton, you may benefit from a mini tummy tuck.
Standard or Full Tummy Tuck
A standard tummy tuck tightens skin and removes excess fat all the way from the pubic area to the rib cage. It also allows for muscle tightening, which flattens the bulge or “pooch” that is common with diastasis recti.
Incisions : The surgery leaves a well-hidden scar that runs from hip bone to hip bone, typically low enough that it’s hidden even in a swimsuit. You’ll also have a small incision around your newly repositioned bellybutton.
Best candidate : This standard approach is ideal for someone looking for a tighter, firmer core, often after pregnancy or weight loss.
Extended Tummy Tuck
An extended tummy tuck reaches further around the midsection to tighten skin and remove fat on the flanks and past the hips.
Incisions : These incisions are longer than standard tummy tuck incisions but are placed in the same area, very low along the bikini line.
Best candidate : An extended tummy tuck is a fantastic option for someone who needs a bit more skin tightening than a standard tummy tuck offers. This is a common option for people who have experienced significant weight loss.
Standard Abdominoplasty With A “Floated Umbilicus”
This is an alternative procedure which is less frequently preferred than a standard abdominoplasty with umbilical re-positioning. The indication for this procedure, is fairly limited, but when indicated, it gives excellent, natural results.
In a standard abdominoplasty with umbilical re-positioning in a patient with little skin excess above the umbilicus to start with , the hole created around the umbilicus will unfortunately not move very far down from its original location. Hence the patient may have to accept a higher scar.
When an umbilical float is done the abdominal skin is elevated towards the chest through the standard abdominoplasty incision at the waist crease, Then, the attachment of the umbilicus to the abdominal wall, is severed as elevation continues. This way, when you pull the abdominal skin flap downwards,, the actual position of the umbilicus will move below its original location.
There are other alternatives here. A standard abdominoplasty with umbilical re-positioning may be performed and make the waist crease incision a lot higher and then there will be no vertical scar. Of course, the waist crease incision will now span across the lower abdomen considerably higher than the waistline of your clothing.
Incisions : This avoids both the scar around the umbilicus and the vertical incision on the lower abdomen altogether which will be required if the umbilicus does not move down easily.
Best candidate: This procedure differs from a mini-abdominoplasty in that a standard abdominoplasty with an umbilical float will address BOTH upper abdominal skin excess as well as muscle laxity, whereas a mini-abdominoplasty will not.
Circumferential Tummy Tuck
A circumferential tummy tuck circles all the way around your midsection to tighten skin on your tummy, sides, and back.
Incisions: This incision creates a circle that runs along your lower abdomen, around your hips, and across your lower back.
Best candidate: Like an extended tummy tuck, a circumferential tummy tuck is best for those who are looking for significant amounts of skin removal, but this approach provides the added benefit of tightening skin on the back, as well.
Fleur-de-Lis Tummy Tuck
This procedure offers the greatest amount of skin removal on the upper and lower abdomen, which creates a smaller waist circumference.
Incisions: This approach leaves an inverted T-shaped scar that runs vertically down the abdomen and horizontally along the bikini line.
Best candidate: This procedure is ideal for someone who has lost a massive amount of weight and has significant amounts of excess skin. It is commonly performed as a part of a body lift, which includes skin tightening on multiple areas of the body.
Can I Include a Hernia or Diastasis Recti Repair in My Tummy Tuck ?
If you are suffering from a hernia or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), these can be repaired as part of a tummy tuck. Hernia repair can be included in any type of tummy tuck, and diastasis recti repair is possible with any type other than a mini tummy tuck. In most cases, it’s best to include diastasis recti or hernia repair with a standard tummy tuck to address these issues, along with removing excess skin and maintaining a natural-looking bellybutton.
Benefits Of Lipo-Abdominoplasty
By performing liposuction prior to abdominoplasty, the abdominal skin can be selectively thinned and shaped prior to abdominoplasty, leading to a more natural shape, with three dimensional contours, not just a flat panel of skin stretched down over the abdomen. Without liposuction the abdomen can look flat and sculpted with blunted, rounded borders where the flanks remain unshaped. In some cases, adding liposuction extended to the flanks may even permit a standard abdominoplasty to give good results where otherwise an extended abdominoplasty (excising skin around the sides of the flanks) would have otherwise been necessary.
This is a surgical procedure to remove unwanted fat and excess skin from the upper arms. The upper arms can store fat and appear disproportionately large to the rest of our figure. It can be performed alongside liposuction for the most precise results and then various tightening procedures such as J plasma may be added to improve skin tightening.
Thigh lift surgery reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin and fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body.
If fitness and weight control efforts have not achieved your goals for a body that is firmer, more youthful-looking and more proportionate to your overall body image, a surgical lift may be right for you.
What thigh lift surgery can’t do
Thigh lifts are not intended strictly for the removal of excess fat. Liposuction alone can remove excess fat deposits where skin has good elasticity and is able to naturally conform to new body contours.
In cases where skin elasticity is poor, a thigh lift along with liposuction may be recommended.
Best Candidate:
Eyelid lift surgery or eye bag removal or Blepharoplasty is a procedure to remove excess fat and skin from around the eyes. The treatment is commonly used to correct hooded or drooping eyelids. As individuals have different needs and wants, the eyelid surgery will always be tailored to you depending on the nature and severity of the excess eyelid skin. Dr Bijlani often combines fat filling procedures to enhance the appearance of under eyes along with upper blepharoplasty
Otoplasty, also known, as Pinnaplasty or ear reshaping, is a relatively straightforward and simple cosmetic surgery procedure to resize, reshape, reposition and/or hold back the ears.
Earlobe Repair Surgery
Sagging earlobes can be corrected by a reduction to reshape them and make them more proportionate, whereas if they’ve been torn or the piercing is overstretched then they can be repaired as well.
